I really wanted to visit the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon before leaving Iceland, but we didn´t have too many days left. On the last day, we did however decide to drive all the way to the lagoon, which is around 4-5 hours. I´m so happy we did it. This was also one of my favorite days during the whole trip, so many beautiful and impressive surroundings.

If you do this trip on your own, be sure to visit the things that we did, it was a very long day, we left at 8 and arrived back to Reykjavik at around 11 pm, but so worth all the stops!

Here´s what we visited (same order as the pictures):

  • Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon
  • Svínafellsjökull glacier
  • Svartifoss waterfall
  • Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon
  • Reynisfjara beach
  • Seljalandsfoss waterfall

All the above-mentioned places are equally impressive, in their own way of course. The glacier lagoon was so quiet and spectacular with even seals swimming around in it. The Svartifoss waterfall with its unique stone formations. The Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon with its green mountains and turquoise water. Reynisfjara beach I would even say it´s one of the most beautiful beaches I´ve ever seen, with a lot of puffins flying around, black sand, beautiful stone columns and an impressive sunset. Seljalandsfoss waterfall, in the sunset, wow. I mean, just wow.

It´s a long 1-day trip, but if you have the opportunity, please do it. Better if you stay overnight in the middle, since there´s also a lot of hiking opportunities. The Svartifoss Waterfall for example, you should reserve at least one hour for that stop, since it takes minimum 30-40 minutes to walk there.
